This anthology contains all 76 prizewinning poems from the first ten years of the international Hippocrates Prize for poetry on a medical subject. Hailed by broadcaster James Naughtie as “one of the most original prizes that has come along for a long time”, the Hippocrates Prize is given in three categories – Health Professional, Open, and Young Poet. It has attracted many thousands of entries from more than seventy countries worldwide, and prizes have gone to internationally acclaimed writers and to novices. The Hippocrates Initiative, which includes the Hippocrates Press and an annual international symposium on poetry and medicine, has been the recipient of a Times Higher Education Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts.
