Frequently asked questions

Are entrants for the Health Professional category also eligible for the Open International category? Yes.

Are the filter Judges aware of who has submitted the entries they view? No. All they see are the title and text of the poems. 

Are the final Judges aware of who has submitted the entries they view? No. All they see are the title and text of the poems. 

Do I have to use the electronic entry fee option? No. Electronic entries may be paid by post. See the competition rules.

How are the filter judges selected?  All filter judges are established, published poets, and are familiar with judging major poetry awards.

I am a former health professional employee. Am I eligible to enter for the health professional category? Yes.

I am employed in a professional organisation supporting health professional staff training and education. Am I eligible to enter the health professional category?  Yes.

I am engaged in medical research. Am I eligible to enter the health professional category? Yes.

I submitted my entry online before the secure online payment link was open. How do I pay my entry fee? You may pay online by going directly to the pay link administered by the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine or by cheque sent by mail as explained in the competition Rules.

I teach health professionals. Am I eligible to enter the health professional category? Yes.

My poem concerns a specific patient. What caution is needed? Make sure no patient-identifiable detail is included

The email acknowledgement has lost the formatting for the poem(s) I entered. The online submission received for the judges retains your text formatting for line breaks and spaces between verses. To indicate italics, add <i> at the start and </i> at the end of text you wish to be in italics.

When do judges view the submissions? The filter judges view the poems after the closing date for entries. The final judges then view the long-list of entries prepared by the filter judges.
